Lucas Akira Druet

I’m Lucas, a designer and maker with a background in architecture and a lifelong passion for tinkering. Born and raised on BC's west coast, currently living in Winnipeg Manitoba. I hold a Bachelor of Architectural Science from the British Columbia Institute of Technology and a Master of Architecture from the University of Manitoba. My career has been shaped by a mix of hands-on making, design, and community-led construction.

My early years were spent experimenting with guitars and working in landscaping and framing. After several years in architectural firms, I realized I was missing the hands-on side of building. That motivated me to pursue my master’s degree, where I explored how making and building could intersect with architectural development and community capacity building.

My thesis focused on empowering First Nations communities through design and construction. I proposed a community workshop model where local members could gain access to the skills, tools, and space to design and build their passions — a project rooted in the idea of increasing agency and ownership in the built environment. This led to my work with Grey & Ivy, where I ran design-build workshops in First Nations communities, and led the development of "Knowledge Centre" facilities, helping participants learn design, construction, and problem-solving skills while working on meaningful local projects.

My work has spanned from building guitars to managing training facility developments and leading large-scale community builds. I always work in a collaborative manner with a focus on blending creative problem-solving with practical construction. I’m passionate about efficiency, collaboration, and helping others find their agency through making.
